Artist Feature:

Darwin’s Finch
Watercolor, ink.

This is about adaptation. We are going through a mass extinction of all kinds of life: birds, insects, amphibians, you name it. It is recorded in science, and when we pay attention we can see it. This realization feels hopeless, heartbreaking, and I still cry about the birds dying sometimes. But I found that the plants still grow. The weather is crazy and we spray them to hell, but the plants still grow. If they can find a way, life up the food chain will, too. So, we can cry about the birds, but let’s not forget to find joy in the prairie flowers in the ditches.
