We recently spoke with Zander of Zero Place:
TNM – How long has Zero Place been playing?
Z – I started writing material in 2019, recorded the first album, never feel again as a solo project playing all the instruments myself and recruited an old friend of mine, Neal Stein, to engineer and mix/master everything. I then formed a live band as a three piece group with Jake Martin and Matthew Johnson. We began playing live and the album was released in May of 2020. It was the height of covid so we were unable to play live for the first time until August of that year.
TNM – Can you describe your sound?
Z – I describe it as heavy, depressive rock with grunge overtones. There are definitely some black metal influences that add a darker edge to the sound.
TNM – Where can we find your music?
Z – We have released two albums and several singles which can all be listened to and purchased at zeroplace.bandcamp.com. Both full lengths are pressed on vinyl, and we have CD and cassette formats, as well as digital available there.
TNM – Do you have any plans to hit the road soon?
Z – We have three dates on the road in October.
10/7 in Sioux Falls, SD at Big’s live,
10/8 in Des Moines, IA at Lefty’s, and
10/9 in Chicago, IL at Reggie’s.
All of these dates are supporting 96 Bitter Beings which is a great opportunity for us. We will be a three piece for these dates consisting of myself on guitar and vocals, Jake Martin on bass, and Jon Weber of Disappear Forever on drums. All event dates and ticket info can be found at zeroplaceband.com
TNM – What’s the best thing about Fargo/Moorhead?
Z – I have been living in the Fargo area off and on for over 20 years, and have been a part of the music scene just as long. I was welcomed into the scene as a 12-year-old kid, and have always appreciated the comradery within. Fargo has grown a lot since then. It continues to be a thriving place for artists, which I am very proud of. It is a good place for me to call home.
